Retaining many of its original features and beautifully furnished with antiques, the Ruskin has great charm and character. Centrally situated in a quiet conservation area, the hotel has mature, lawned gardens and a private, floodlit car park. Built in the mid-nineteenth century and visited by John Ruskin, the eminent Victorian art critic, author and artist, after whom it is named, The Ruskin is now an exclusive, privately owned hotel.

The Ruskin has earned an enviable reputation for the exceptional standard and quality of its bedrooms. Each of the seven en-suite rooms has an individual character and atmosphere and enjoys pleasant views over the gardens. All bedrooms are beautifully furnished with Victorian pine and decorated to a high standard. A Four-Poster bedroom is perfect for that special occasion; a ground floor bedroom is perfect for less able guests and those wanting to bring a well behaved dog. The Ruskin's bedrooms were described by the Sunday Times as "spacious, with high ceilings and large bay windows. There are tea making facilities, giant wicker chairs and decent sized colour televisions; the heating is neither too fierce nor too tentative, the beds are firm and the décor is easy on the eye"..

Residents and their guests can enjoy a tempting menu of light snacks prepared using fresh local produce. Dinner can be arranged at a number of specially selected local restaurants. Breakfast is always something special at The Ruskin. Choose from a variety of fruits and cereals, followed by a traditional, freshly cooked English breakfast or something lighter. Individual tastes and requirements are catered for. The bar offers an excellent choice of wines, spirits and local beers, and the sunny verandah overlooking the gardens is perfect for enjoying an early evening drink in the summer.

The charming drawing room, with its open fire, is a peaceful place to relax and has a plentiful supply of interesting books, local information and games. Guests can enjoy complimentary use of local private leisure club.

The Ruskin is situated in the heart of Harrogate, England's floral spa town with its elegant Victorian architecture, magnificent floral displays, fine shops, and stylish restaurants and cafés. Visit the Royal Pump Room Museum or experience a true Turkish Bath. Enjoy the beautiful Valley Gardens, or take a stroll on 'The Stray' - some 215 acres of lush lawns that almost surround the town.

IN THE HEART OF YORKSHIRE.......... Visit one of the many stately homes or castles, explore the delightful historic cities of York and Ripon, and discover the splendour of two National Parks - the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors………all just a short car ride away.

Rate includes complimentary use of local health and leisure club.

SHORT BREAKS....... Short breaks (min. 2 nights) are available at certain times of the year, subject to availability: Two nights bed and breakfast from £80 per person sharing a Standard double room. Ask about our special winter and off peak breaks.
